This is a ceramic or porcelain chipmunk salt shaker. It says Japan in green on the underneath, and still has its cork stopper. The stopper is sitting pretty tight in its hole, and I am not about to risk ruining it by trying to take it out. Judging by the finish and the wear, I would guess that this is from the 1960s or early 1970s. See pictures for details.
